GenryuSaiShigekuni Yamamoto (hereafter referred to as Genryusai) is the commander of The Thirteen Court Guard Squads and a man with a long white beard. He's quite the force and has been the 1st Division Commander of The Thirteen Court Guard Squads for over 1,000 years. He sometimes makes ruthless decisions in order to protect the Soul Society, but he also treats the soldiers he has known for a long time like his own children.

Genryusai established ”Soul Reaper Tougakuin(死神統学院)”, which is the basis of ”Shinoureijutuin(真王霊術院)”, which is said to be an educational institution for Soul Reaper. Originally named Shigekuni Yamamoto, he was the founder of a martial arts school called “Ganryuu(元流)” and served as a master of “Ganji Juku(元字塾)”. He originally had a scar on his forehead that looked like the Japanese character for katakana "no(ノ)", so he came to be called "Eijisai(ノ字斎)".After that, Sasakibe, who became Genryusai's vice-captain, gave him an additional scar and turned into a cross, so he began to call himself "Genryusai(元柳斎)".

Zanpakutou's Shikai move called Kaigou is a spell-like spell used to unleash "All things in the universe turn to ashes". Ryuujinjakka, which Sousuke Aizen called the strongest Zanpakutou, is a zanpakutou that can manipulate fire. Because it is too powerful, it is usually sealed as a staff, but when Shikai is activated, the temperature rises enough for the soldiers to evacuate.

Ryujinjakka is written in Kanji as "流刃若火". Literally translated, “流刃” = flowing blade, ”若火”= young fire. ”Yong fire” is an old looking Genryusai, but it might be that he has a young fire at his heart.

Bankai : Zanka no Tachi

Genryusai's Bankai calls it "Zanka no Tachi", which when written in kanji translates to "残火の太刀." Bankai fights by concentrating all the fire on one point of his sword against Shikai, who has spread fire over a wide area until now, with ”残火の” = embers and ”太刀” = sword. Shikai is better suited for mass combat, while Bankai is better suited for one-on-one combat.

I think Kaka Jumanokushi Daisoujin is the coolest move in Genryusai's Zanpakutou. If you write this technique in kanji, it will be ”火火” = double fire, ”十万億死” = 100 million deaths, and ”大葬陣” = large funeral.

Zanka no Tachi North ： Tenchi Kaijin (残火の太刀 北 天地灰尽)

When Genryusai wins, he almost instantly kills Ryujinjakka. It seems that Yhwach and Sousuke Aizen had taken proper countermeasures against Genryusai, and Genryusai lost.

In the fight against Sousuke Aizen, Wonderweiss blocked Ryujinjakka, but he defeated Wonderweiss with his bare hands. However, Ryujinjakka, which Wonderweiss had sealed, exploded, and Genryusai was seriously injured, resulting in him losing to Sousuke Aizen.

In the battle between Genryusai and Yhwach, Genryusai's Bankai dominated in the early stages, but it was Royd Lloyd who was disguised as Yhwach who was fighting. Royd Lloyd exhausts Genryusai and the real Yhwach steals Genryusai's bankai and cuts it in half, killing Genryusai. Genryusai's death shocked the Soul Society.

Kurotsuchi Mayuri points out that Genryusai missed Yhwach in the battle with Lichtreich, the source of Wandenreich 1000 years ago.
