Furuta is a handsome, short-haired male character and the mole around the eyes is a distinctive feature. He is a Ghoul investigator belonging to the Kijima squad of the CCG. He has a gentle and polite personality, but he also has a clumsy side, so much so that his superior, Kijima, sarcastically calls him good at playing the role of a decoy. However, when Kijima dies during the Tsukiyama subjugation operation, his true nature is revealed...
Furuta is cornered by Matsumae, a servant of the Tsukiyama family who killed Kijima, but he uses the investigator who was with him as a shield and fights off using Kijima's Quinque, and then kills all the other investigators around him to keep them quiet. His true identity is revealed to be Souta, a member of the Crown, and he is from a branch of the Whashuu family, his real name is Washuufuruta Nimura. He couldn't stand the environment where he was born into the Whashuu family and was forced to live a life that was set for him. He ran away from the Washuu family because he wanted to fall in love normally and build a normal warm family.
In fact, Furuta was the one who dropped the steel beam on Rize, and confessed to her that he wanted to make her his lover, but when she rejected him, he killed Rize and then killed her in order to take her body for himself. Furuta just wanted to live a normal life, but he couldn't escape the Washuu family. He realized that his dream would never come true, so he decided to destroy everything. He attacked the CCG and killed many members of the Washuu family, including the head of the CCG, Tsuneyoshi Washuu.

Furuta is from a branch of the Washuu family, and Tsuneyoshi Washuu, the Director General of the CCG, is his father, and Yoshitoki Washuu, the Director General of the CCG, is his half-brother. It is unclear in the story whether they are on good terms, but Tsuneyoshi and Yoshitoki are ambushed and killed in an attack by Furuta.

Furuta was the one who turned Kaneki into a Ghoul, and in the final battle of the story, he cornered Kaneki, creating the conditions for him to become a Dragon. He calls this Kouryuugi(降竜儀), which translates to a ritual to summon a dragon. His plan is to have Kaneki eat Oggai, children who have undergone the Half Ghoul surgery, to have Kaneki inject a large amount of drugs into him. Kaneki will then transform into the powerful Kaguja and resurrected Rize.He was probably planning to use the dragon to destroy the world, and after he had destroyed the world with the dragon, he would spend some time with the resurrected Rize.
However, when Kaneki, who had turned into a dragon, appeared again, Furuta said, "Are you still alive? Turns me off." From there, it's a one-on-one battle between Furuta and Kaneki. Furuta is cornered by Kaneki due to factors such as the burden he has accumulated and the fact that Kaneki reappeared after becoming a Dragon and Kaneki inherited the powers from Dragon.
Furuta realizes that he will lose, and in his final moments he talks about the dreams he himself had, and in return he hears Kaneki's current thoughts, and dies satisfied.

Furuta and Rize are from the same Washuu family and have been playing together since they were young. He has a deep affection for Rize and helped her escape from the Washuu family.
